Prayer Vigil for Iraq

Dear Christ Redeemer Family,

Many of you are aware of the current situation in Iraq, as our brothers and sisters in Christ, along with other religious minorities face persecution from ISIS. There are widespread reports of brutality, including brutality against children.

Last Sunday, Erin Carter suggested that we hold a 24 hour prayer vigil for Iraq, and this week the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops set aside this coming Sunday, August 17 as a day of prayer for Iraq. So, in solidarity with our persecuted brothers and sisters and in communion with many other Christians across our country and the world, we are combining these two ideas.

I have created a sign-up sheet that covers the 24 hours of August 17. Please follow this link, and sign up to pray. We have ample people receiving this email to cover the entirety of this time, so there is no reason for the schedule to not fill up. We’ll simply devote ourselves to prayer wherever we are at the time we are signed up.

For suggestions for prayer, please see this press release from our Archbishop, Foley Beach or these prayers from the Archbishop of York, John Setamnu.

Thanks for your support of this initiative and our persecuted brothers and sisters.
